On 30 March 2023, Chen Chunlin, Vice Dean of the School of Management & Engineering, and Deng Zeyan, Director of Connie Yu College Affairs Centre and tutor of the Experimental Class, led the students of the 2022 Industrial Intelligence and Systems Integration Experimental Class to conduct a thematic class activity in an enterprise, with teachers Li Huaxiong, Liu Fan, Hu Qian, Zhao Jiabao, Wang Zhengli, Hu Yi and Li Min invited to participate.
The event was held in the Jiangning District Smart Manufacturing Demonstration Factory of Nanjing NEW PWR Electric Technology Co. Accompanied by General Manager Guo Yunxia, Head of Information Department of NEW PWR Electric, the teachers and students visited the whole production process and had a discussion and exchange, which further brought closer the link between academics and practice, and between classroom and extracurricular.

Firstly, under the guidance of Mr. Guo, students and teachers visited the intelligent manufacturing demonstration factory in turn, from material supply to product release. In order to achieve a high degree of automation and information technology, UBE has developed a number of hardware and software facilities, such as intelligent material towers and mobile AGVs in the factory. Then, along the production line, they witnessed a series of processes from labeling and unique identification, to fully automatic plating, painting and welding. After the explanation, the students learned that many of the machines on the production line have been optimised by NEW PWR's innovation to be more adapted to the intelligent production process, and that the entire production line is only two or three workers; in addition, the intelligent unmanned standing storage area has been completely unmanned under normal working conditions. However, the goal of increased automation is not to be completely unmanned, as the factory may face unexpected situations or quality checks that still have to be handled by technical staff to make decisions, and a manual production line has been reserved.

At the same time, Mr. Guo focused on the "Production Information Management Cloud Platform", which realizes the centralized aggregation of production data in each link, monitors and warns production problems at any time, which greatly reduces the time spent on problem investigation and can prevent problems before they occur. Currently, NEW PWR has registered a unique industrial internet enterprise logo, which enables upstream and downstream partner companies to trace the products to each other.

In addition to the rational arrangement of automation to improve production efficiency and reduce production costs, it is also important to achieve pollution-free, zero-waste and safe production in the information technology construction. The drip zone of NEW PWR Electrical is a safe and economical production area thanks to its excellent exhaust air system. The photovoltaic power generation area also provides electricity for production and supports environmental protection.
During the seminar, Mr. Guo further introduced the background of the intelligent transformation and digital transformation of the enterprise, and explained the automation of production equipment such as AGV, machine commissioning, intelligent vertical storage and the effectiveness of the informationization of the production process built by NEW PWR Automation itself. The students put forward their questions and insights on the product traceability method of factory information system, factory production work system, artificial intelligence and human decision coordination, etc., and had a lively discussion and exchange.

The trip to NEW PWR Electric was a learning activity that integrated education, industry and education. Under the leadership of industry experts and lecturers, and in the realistic and vivid classroom scenes, students have a more intuitive and visual understanding of the grand blueprint of "building a modern industrial system" in the report of the 20th National Congress, a deeper reflection on what they have learned in class and what the country needs, and a clearer understanding of the mission and goals of youth. We hope that all students in the Industrial Intelligence and Systems Integration Experimental Class of 2022 will cultivate a sense of family and country, aspire to serve the country with their studies, and always follow the Party and advance in their new journey.
